The system supports both ground and 3D volumetric navigation, allowing characters to navigate in three dimensions, including running, walking, swimming, and flying. Our collision avoidance system supports large crowds avoiding moving obstacles and characters, creating emergent effects like lane formations and swirling.
Navigation Data Generation
Generate fast, high-quality navigation meshes using custom rational arithmetic-based number representation for watertight alignment with level boundaries. You can customize navigable worlds with traversal edges and mark individual faces with custom materials to modify character behavior. The system supports large nav meshes and hierarchical pathfinding, allowing for accelerated navigation through unloaded sections of the map.
Dynamic Environments
Respond quickly and effectively to dynamically changing environments. Havok Navigation allows you to load and unload sections of the nav mesh at runtime, using silhouette cutting to remove inaccessible areas and dynamically adjusting based on player-controlled events. You can create one-way doors by adjusting the cost and traversability of individual nav mesh faces and edges.

No. All of the Havok products are standalone and can be used fully independently of each other.

Yes! Havok Navigation supports ground navigation (2D) and volumetric navigation (3D) to cater for any kind of character, regardless of their relationship with gravity. All of the queries, dynamic changes, and customizations available work for both ground and volumetric navigation.
I want to move from a small world to an open world, can you help?
Of course. Havok Navigation has been used in a number of game franchises that moved from smaller worlds to large open world gameplay. Nav mesh streaming and stitching allow you to load in sections of large worlds at runtime, and our implementation of cluster graphs enable characters to navigate through unloaded world sections.
